Sex Drugs & Hip Hop...Oh and did I mention LOVE

The autobiography of Carmen Bryan was more than entertaining. Her dramatic tale of life and love to Nas entitled; Sex, Drugs & Hip Hop-Oh and did I mention LOVE, takes you through the life of a round-the-way girl with dreams shattered by lust. Carmen Bryan, better known as Nas’ baby-momma, penned this tale in what appears to be an attempt to vindicate herself. In the book she tells the other side of the story. The reader is safely strapped in the passenger seat and is taken on a ride through the projects of New York, from bed to bed of some of the hottest names in entertainment.

When most people speak of Carmen, they reference a hood rat chick. A girl who ran through poor Nas and got dicked down by Jigga behind his back. This book tells a much different story. Journey with her through her brush with suicide, to unexpected pregnancies; this story is definitely made for TV. The reader club hops and pop's X with her during her “wilding” days- I must say, it was more entertaining than fiction.

She spoke candidly about first hand meetings with Puffy and Kelis. She goes into detail about her affair with Allen Iverson and her conflict with Foxy Brown. All and all, I sum Carmen up as a sista who stuck it out when times were hard with Nas, but was young, and fell victim to a strong sexual desire that controlled her life.

The art of detail in the book is a bit elementary. There are a lot of situations that I would have liked to have been flushed out a bit more to keep the reader engaged in the scene. There are some very sticky situations. Most of all, the emotional highs and moral lows that constitute a great read. The book is completely different from Confessions of a Video Vixen, which tells Karrine Steffans life story as a “video hoe”. Carmen was a mother who was highly desired and followed her heart, wherever it lead her.

“Supa Ugly”; the heated track that Jay Z unleashed after Nas’ Ether hit airwaves was supposedly about Carm too. Come to find out, Carmen takes credit for being the inspiration to most of Jigga's greatest hits. Whew, hindsight is always 20/20.

Supa Ugly Lyrics:

all i really know is yo ho wants to be wit me
she ain't playn, know what im sayin
AINT PLAYN AINT PLAYN AINT PLAYN wit me
me and the boy, A.I., got more in common than
just ballin and rhymin, get it?
MORE IN CARMEN*
I came in yo' Bentley backseat
Skeeted in the jeep
Left condoms on yo' baby's seat
Here the niggaz in the club, love is done
It's whatever, whenever, however you want
AND SINCE U INFATUATED WIT Sayin that GAY SHIT
Guess you was kissn my dick when you was kissn that bitch
Nasty shit, u thought i was taller than that
You callin home a hundred times, i was bonin her neck
U got a baby by the broad you can't disown her yet
when do your lies end?
when does the truth begin?
and when does reality set in, or does it not matter
GOTTA HURT THAT I'M YO BABY MAMA'S FAVORITE RAPPER!
and ask your current girl, she know whats up
Holla at ya real nigga *siren*
[Dre clip] I don't give a fuck

all i really know is that yo ho wants to be wit me
she ain't playn, know what im sayin
AINT PLAYN AINT PLAYN AINT PLAYN wit me
ooooooout

Carmen on Allen Iverson:
“As soon as we entered the room, we were all over each other. We began kissing, then we fell onto the bed. The next thing I knew, my top was off, my shorts, then everything. He felt wonderful inside me. The first session was rather brief, but enjoyable. After the second and third round, I was out like a light. Allen had incredible stamina.”

Carmen on Jigga (SC) and music:
“A few weeks later, “Is That Ya Chick?” A single off Memphis Bleek’s, CD, The Understanding was released and there were rumors circulating that the song was about me. I had never met Memphis Bleek, but I knew off the back, that this was something that had SC’s signature all over it. When Nas heard the song, he called me immediately. “Yo Carm, that Memph Bleek song with Jay Z, is that suppose to be about you?” I hadn’t heard the song at the time, so I denied it. When I finally heard the track it was confirmed. The song definitely designed to not only assassinate my character, but it was a sure shot at Nas.”

Lyrics to "Is that Ya Chick"

Uh, yo don't get mad at me
I don't love 'em I fuck 'em
I don't chase 'em I duck 'em
I replace 'em with another one
You had to see she keep calling me BIG
(And another one!)
And my name is Jay-Z
She be all on my dick
Gradually I'm taking over your bitch
Coming over your shit
Got my feet up on you sofas, man
I mean a hostess for my open hand
You coming home to dishes and empty soda cans
I got your bitch in my Rover man
I never kiss her, I never hold her hand
In fact I diss her I'm a bolder man
I'mma pimp her, it's over man
When I twist her in the Gold sedan
Like I'm Goldie man, you've been chosen man
Jigga man, ice burg with the frozen hands
don't make it frozen man
---Chorus---
Yo.. how dumb the pimp? I heard he trick
Bought a new five, maybe six
Copped that for his new down bitch
And I was diggin that down since '96
Memph-Man I'll take your bitch
Let her do her thing, give brain in the whip
And you know how it go when it come to the hoes
She can do the same thing to the click you know
Yo hoe chose, don't get mad at me
Got your wife callin me daddy
Put her out on the street let her get that cheese
My bad is that your freak
But you know how a thug do
When a nigga hit that, it's fuck you
Keep it snug, tre deuce in the boot
Niggas wanna act, fuck a slut too

GM All-Car Showdown

This was the 3rd annual car show sponsored by GM and hosted by your's truly, Big Shaq, and co-hosted by Lala Rodriguez. The event brought out a plethora of stars. Those that I got a chance to interview were, Ludacris, Shaq, Shaunie and Tracy Ellis Ross. The event was live. The set was somewhat of a old Manhattan style and guest milled about drinking on Kettle One and whatever mix their heart desired. One of the highlights of the night was seeing Larenz Tate in person. Whew, talk about sexy. T.O. was there as well but I was a bit disappointed in him in person, he wasn't too bad though.

Common wrapped the night up with a performance that included what seemed like all of his albums. The media was bananas. I'm sure you will all be reading about this in every publication to come. I've never been on a red carpet that was this tight. I had to constantly fight for a spot to get close to the ones I needed to talk to.

Although the surprise guest that was slated to appear was Common, hell, the surprise for me was seeing Coolio come out of hiding. Only one of us was allowed on the red carpet, and my sister takes all of the photo's (shout out Sussy) so unfortunately I didn't get a good shot of him. Snoop won for best interior and he deserved it. Have you ever seen a chandelier in a low rider? Well check out the show when it airs, it will definitely be a treat. Thanks Serena for the plug on the event. Love ya, and keep ya head up.

Street Ball Tournament: Venice Beach, CA

It’s not the middle of summer just yet, but the pre Midsummer Nights Dream 2006 kick off party just went down. Venice Beach was definitely the place to be Sunday June 28th as the “torch” was passed to Paul Pierce of the Celtics and Baron Davis of the Golden State Warriors. Both players will take over Magic Johnson's annual summer event.

The two NBA All Stars are officially carrying the hottest function of the Los Angeles summer on their back, and they have some huge shoes to fill. Along with Snoop Dogg and Dijon Thompson the event got a jump-start. It seemed like all of LA was on the water today. Celebrities like Brandy, Ray J, Jessica Alba, and Game showed up to support the tournament. Many of the stars in attendance say their firm support derives from the desire to help kids and the community.

The sun was blazing and I was getting a much appreciated tan as I maneuvered through the crowd during the pre-game. I got awesome shots of these dudes slammin’ and cutting-a- fool. The MC bust jokes on each of the players giving me a pain in my side from laughing.

The games were energized and embodied all of the elements of true-to-life street ball. The teams had west coast names. Pierce's was Inglewood's Finest, Snoop's West Coast Riddaz represented, Davis' was Rising Stars, and Dijon Thompson (formerly Lamar Odem's team) represented Rich Soil. The Rising Stars took home the title this summer.

I got the chance to get more than enough interviews, and as soon as I get this firewire together I’ll download a few for you guys to watch. In the meantime I must say that both Pierce and Davis were excellent interviews, very personable. Of all of the events that I’ve attended thus far, I think this was the best.

In case you don’t know what A Mid Summer Nights Dream (formerly A Midsummer Nights Magic) is, here’s the back story: For the past 20 years Magic Johnson, who is know for his philanthropy, has given back to the inner-cities by offering scholarships, essay competitions, and charity games. The event hosts a weekend of entertainment from July 7-9 with concerts, fashion shows, and parties. This event is star studded and raises a ton of money. Proceeds are given to each respective organization.

Pierce and Davis are following Johnson to the letter. They both have foundations of their own carved out for the youth in their former communities. Baron Davis Foundation for At-Risk Youth, Paul Pierce's Truth Foundation will benefit from the event.
